NYS Safe STREETS DAYs of action

Jan 28, 2025 & May 13, 2025

Join safe streets advocates from around NYS as we head to Albany to talk to legislators about what we need them to do to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe on New York's streets.

Past actions have led to successes including the the 2022 law allowing local control of speed limits down to 25 mph and the 2024 inclusion of Sammy's Law in the NYS Budget. Sammy's Law is named after Sammy Cohen Eckstein who was 12 years old in 2013 when he was killed by a speeding driver in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Sammy's Law gives NYC local control of speed limits on neighborhood streets down to 20 mph.

At the the Safe Streets Days of Action, YOU can help! Join us as we head to Albany to talk to legislators about how important cycling is to our communities and what we want our elected representatives to do right now to keep cyclists and pedestrians safe on New York's streets.

Never talked to a legislator before? Don’t worry! We offer trainings before the event and pair you with a more experienced partner to make sure you have what you need to be a great advocate for safe streets in New York.

Want to join us in person but don't have a way to get there? Hop on the bus from NYC with us (6:30 am departure near Grand Central), or let us know you need a ride from elsewhere, and we will try to arrange a carpool from anywhere in NY state.

And whether you participate in the Advocacy Day or not, please sign the petition here to let your NYS legislators know that you want safe streets for everyone: cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers, too!

The 2025 NYS Safe Streets Days of Action are
